Backstage with the Addams Family

A backstage video special for the Addams Family Groove, circa 1991. This is the last of several videos I recently found on youtube. Apologies to anyone with a slow internet connection.

This video was also uploaded on Addams1977, a youtube channel all about the Addams Family.

Here is a teaser trailer and a television commercial for the first Addams Family movie. Both have footage that did not appear in the movie.

Behind The Scenes: The Addams Family Movie (1991)

This is a rare video clip with interviews with actors from the Addams Family movie. To my knowledge, it was never aired on television in any English speaking nations.

Perhaps it is a sign of the Addams Family's impact and its far-reaching influence that Addams Family parody shows up in all forms of media.

Close-up View of Movie Props

Well, it's a little too late to purchase them, but it's not too late to take a nice, close look at them. At liveauctioneers.com, I stumbled over a noteworthy selection of past Addams Family prop auctions that are still available for viewing. The site has many close-up, well light photos of movie costumes and other props.

(Above is the menu to Gomez and Morticia's favorite bistro,
a prop from the Addams Family Values)

This is a great chance to check out the details of items that might not have been fully viewable in the movies. If you're planning on an Addams Family Halloween costume this year, these photos might help in having the most actuate costume around!

Check out:
Gomez's Suit
Gomez's Suit 2
Morticia's Dress
Wednesday's Dress
Wednesday's Party Dress
Wednesday's Nightgown
Pugsley's Shirt
Fester's Jacket
Fester's Overcoat
Also:
Thing
The Rack
Baby Whatt's Casket
Camp Chippewa Live Saver

Liveauctioneers.com has quite a selection of props available for viewing. Unfortunately, their site search engine isn't perfect for finding older actions. I suggest doing a google site-specific search for other props.

The Real Meaning Behind the Addams Family Motto

"Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc!"
“We gladly feast upon those who would subdue us.”

Not just pretty words? Well, according to Dennis of the Campvs, the Addams Family Credo might be just that: pretty words. Dennis, graduate student linguist, translates the meaning of the Addams Family movie's bit of Hollywood Latin, "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc!":

“Thus do we growl that (our) big toes have,
at this moment, been thrown up from below!”

He then offers a possibly more accurate Latin verse:

“Laeti vescimur nos subacturis.”

Remember when Wednesday burned down the village of the play and tied up Amanda to the wooden stick surrounded by wood covered in gasoline? well did amanda die?

Buffy/Addams Family/Munsters fanfiction... Oh my!

Well, this may not be exactly what most Addams Family fans are looking for, but the Addams family and the Munsters were recently mentioned in a piece of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfiction called "The Letter" by shylittlemuse of livejournal.

A warning to Addams Family fans, though, the story mentions Addams Family character deaths, and the main focus of the story is on characters of Buffy the Vampire.

Interview with Christopher Hart, hand actor Addams Family's Thing

“The man with the movie star hand,” and “The most famous right hand in Hollywood” are just two of the quotes reviewers have used to describe the talents of master magician Christopher Hart.
This came following his featured role as “Thing” the expressive disembodied hand in the film “The Addams Family,” and its sequel “Addams Family Values." ...

Script (with omitted scenes - complete)

The script of the 1991 movie - with scenes that weren't in the movie!

sample:

"MORTICIA
Just as long as we're together,
n'est pas, mon cher?
As she turns to Gomez, we see the interior of the bungalow
-- all ersatz cowboy and Indian mixed with chrome-plated
plastic and orange shag carpet.

GOMEZ
sits slumped in a chair made from wagon wheel and nauga-
hyde. It's as if all of his insane, vibrant energy has
been leeched from him. He's a broken man. He looks back
at her as if he's never heard French.

GOMEZ
Huh?
Wednesday tends to him. She and her mother exchange a
worried look.

PUGSLEY
comes from the bathroom, nibbling a wrapped bar of motel
soap.

PUGSLEY
This place isn't so bad. They even
put candy in the bathroom.

MORTICIA
That's the soap, dear.

PUGSLEY
Oh.
He takes another greedy bite.
Wednesday pats her father's arm.

WEDNESDAY
Do you want a cigar, Father?

GOMEZ
(in a monotone)
They're very bad for you.

WEDNESDAY
(very worried)
Father?
Wednesday exchanges a panic-stricken look with Morticia.
The family moves closer to Gomez.

GOMEZ
But maybe I'll have one of those...
He takes a bar of soap from Pugsley. Gomez unwraps it
and morosely eats."
